More evidence that PPIs may increase risk for heart disease

There has been a lot of news regarding the long term risk of reflux medications lately. These risks include dementia, kidney disease, osteoporosis, colon infections, lung infections…..

There is another risk associated with taking reflux medications (PPIs, or Proton Pump Inhibitors such as prilosec, prevacid, nexium, omeprazole, dexilant….) and that is cardiovascular disease which includes heart attacks and strokes. This risk has been known for some time. There are articles dating back at least 6 years. To date, there is no cause and effect, meaning we do not know exactly why these are related, we just know there is a risk of heart attack and stroke in those who take these reflux medications.

There are new minimally invasive procedures that can control your symptoms and reduce or eliminate the need for these medications. Contact the Center for Esophageal Wellness to schedule a consultation for your reflux testing today. Our experienced staff will provide you with the proper care and treatment you need.
