Because your esophagus does not empty well, and we cannot do surgery with food in your esophagus, we need you to be on a clear liquid diet for 48 hours prior to surgery. This means if you can see through it, you can have it; no solid food or liquids you cannot see through for 48 hours prior to surgery.
Remember- nothing to drink after midnight the night before your surgery.
Because of the nature of TIF/Esophyx surgery, your stomach needs to be completely empty on the day of surgery. For this reason, we need you to be on a clear liquid diet for 48 hours prior to surgery. This means if you can see through it, you can have it; no solid food or liquids you cannot see through for 48 hours prior to surgery.
Remember- nothing to drink after midnight the night before your surgery.
Please continue to take your reflux medication (Prilosec, Prevacid, Dexilant, etc) up until surgery and for 2 weeks after surgery.
